I must admit, I have a thing for Portuguese Men!

GAY STUDENTS IN NEW ZEALAND FACE DISCRIMINATION AT THEIR PROM

Some schools in New Zealand are being allowed to bring their lover (same-sex or not) to their high school prom, however, there is a catch!! They must sign a waiver stating they are really gay in order to bring their date.. Ummm.. How 'Effed up is that??

Rainbow education officer Serafin Dillon knows of four Auckland colleges that do not allow same-gender ball partners unless pupils sign contracts stating their sexual orientation.

She would not name the schools but said their policies were discriminatory and breached the Bill of Rights.

"If this was in the workplace it would be discrimination and it would be unheard of. But because it's a school they think they can somehow get away with it."

There is some good news out of this. There will be an alternate prom for those who want to bring whoever as their date to the ball. Mum, Dad, Best Friend, Pet??

Rainbow Youth, an education service for non-heterosexual young people, is holding an alternative ball next month "where it doesn't matter who your date is or who wears a dress".

The group declined to reveal the location for fear of attacks. [SOURCE]

CANADA IMPLEMENTS FIRST GAY FRIENDLY HOTLINE TO REPORT HATE CRIMES

Brampton Ontario, has implemented the first hotline for the LGBTQ community in North America. This hotline is for those who are lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people to call in if want to report a hate crime.

This is pretty big stuff here!

Insp. Brian Cryerman of the Peel Regional Police diversity relations unit says the initiative will make it easier for people to come forward with complaints.

Cryerman says people should still dial 911 for crimes in progress.

The recorded hotline will be monitored by diversity relations officers, and callers will be contacted within 24 hours. [SOURCE]

Being from Toronto, which is beside Brampton, I have to say I am impressed. I am actually impressed that Brampton is the one to have come out with this first. I would have thought it would have been Toronto. Oh Well, I am glad this is place and soon all provinces will follow.

MAJORITY OF AMERICANS SUPPORT GAY WORKERS

In a recent poll, the American workplace is increasingly supportive of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender workers, finding that a majority support marriage-like benefits. This is great news. Glad to see educated people are supportive of gay's rights..

The 2008 Out & Equal Workplace Survey conducted online by polling group Harris Interactive in conjunction with Out & Equal, a group dedicated to ending gay & lesbian discrimination in the workplace, and Witeck-Combs Communications finds that a majority of workers agree that performance, not sexual orientation or gender identity, should be the basis on which to judge GLBT people and most support marriage-like benefits for gays couples.

“It's encouraging that heterosexuals appear more and more committed to ending these forms of employment discrimination and to extending equal benefits to all employees,” said Out & Equal Executive Director Selisse Berry in a prepared statement.

The survey found that nearly eight out of ten (79%) heterosexual adults strongly or somewhat agree that how an employee does his or her job should be the standard for judging an employee, not their sexual orientation. And, seven out ten (71%) believe that also extends to gender identity.

Even with benefits, the workplace is becoming more lenient:

Three-quarters (75%) of heterosexuals surveyed agreed gay and lesbian employees should receive leave when they lose a spouse/partner or close family member. More than two-thirds (68%) agreed gays and lesbians should receive leave rights for medical and family emergencies. And, a majority (64%) of heterosexuals feel that gay and lesbian employees should receive untaxed health benefits under federal law. [SOURCE]

Although this is good news, the article does state that gays continue to report workplace discrimination. A majority of gay adults (65%) report they faced some sort of discrimination. Nearly half (47%) of gays and lesbians say they have overheard anti-gay comments on the job. And, more than one-third (36%) of gay adults claim they remain closeted at work.

Not Cool..

JENNIE & SHANNEN DO ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Well Tonight is the Night where 90210 2.0 Premieres. Really Excited here, mostly bc I will be able to see some of the old cast back in action. Here is Jennie and Shannen on the upcoming cover of Entertainment Weekly. They discuss the drama from the past, the new friendship on the new set.. its juicy guys.. I Mean it.. Here is some Q&A from the article:

EW: The other day you had your first scene together in 14 years. When did you last see each other before the scene and what was it like shooting together again?

Doherty: [Laughs] Oh, God. When was it? Ten years ago? I don’t know. A long time. I can only speak for myself, but being with someone I knew made it easier for me my first day on set. At least for me there was an appreciation that we’d been through the first 90210 together and now we’re going through it again, but in such a different way because we’re both adults now. The only weird thing was while we were trying to catch up everyone was watching us. Every single eyeball was on us. I don’t know what they were expecting. I was more interested in talking to her about Dancing With the Stars. I thought she did an amazing job.

Garth: There had been so much buildup. Everyone was asking me before what it was going to be like. I was like, “I don’t know. I haven’t talked to her in 10 or 15 years.” I had that tension and I started to let it get to me. Is she going to be nice? Is it going to be a bad environment? But when I saw her everything was fine. [To Shannen] I was going to call you and tell you this—I got your number from Gabe but I never called. I felt a certain comfort too in having you there and I did not think I would feel that way. It was at some point around 2 a.m., and I felt like it’s so nice to have someone here who is a partner, someone who knew where we’d been and what it was like with the real show.

Doherty: I think when you’re 18, your personalities conflict, and then you meet up 10 or 15 years later and the playing ground is totally different and you’re fine. Like Jennie said, of course there were nerves going in. But half of it was the buildup everyone else put on it. When I was driving to the set I was getting phone calls, and I finally turned my phone off because I thought, I have to go in there with a completely fresh attitude and start over and give everybody a chance and everybody has to give me a chance. Once I was able to turn all of that off, the first moment I saw her it was like, Okay, this is going to be good. It was like, “Hey.” Then a hug. It’s like going to a war together. You’ve already been in the trenches together. You learned so much from that first war. That second war, you know what you need to do to make the set the most peaceful environment you can possibly have.

EW: Okay, but back to the fistfight: fact or fiction?

Garth: I don’t think we ever hit each other.

Doherty: We had our moments.

Garth: I just remember being outside and the boys having to try to settle us down.

Doherty: No, we never punched each other.

Garth: Scratching? I’m not going to deny that. [SOURCE]

EEEK... Anyone else Excited??

JOSH HARTNETT MAY HAVE A SEX TAPE - SWEET!!

Happy Tuesday Everyone. To start off the day I have some good news for those who have a little crush on actor Josh Hartnett. Seems like the studly actor was caught engaging in some sexual activitiy in a public library with a lady friend and was caught on a security tape. Woot Woot.

Hotel personnel watched as the 30-year-old actor and the woman hit the library in London's Soho hotel for some "hot and heavy" action.

"Josh and the girl were getting pretty hot and heavy. After stumbling in quite late, they legged it to the library and immediately closed all the curtains so that no one could see in," a spy told the Mirror.

"Unfortunately the hotel has security cameras all over the place — the library included. This means their every spit and cough was recorded, and cringing hotel workers saw all of Josh's X-rated moves.

"No one quite knew where to look and there was a very awkward silence. Josh didn't seem bothered that the library wasn't locked and anyone could just burst in. He just kind of went for it.

"After the event, someone had a quiet word in Josh's ear and he was asked to take his personal business elsewhere in future. Josh took it on the chin and didn't kick up a fuss. He's been as good as gold since." [SOURCE]

I wonder if it will be available on the internet soon... I hope it's better than Colin Farrell's sex tape. I love the dude, but man that was one blah video.
