AUSTRALIA: MAN FOUND GUILTY 4 SPREADING HIV AT GAY PARTIES

How disgusting is this. A man has been found guilty for spreading HIV at gay parties. He was found bragging to someone about how he infected 75 known people. I am shocked!! I dunno what to say. This guy needs to be put away for a long long time for doing such a horrible thing.

A 49-year-old Melbourne man was convicted Thursday of knowingly spreading HIV to other men

During the five week trial, the court was told that Michael John Neal bragged that he had made “75 people pos.”

Neal was originally charged in 2006 with 35 counts, but after the case was made public, dozens of other men went to police.

Prosecutor Mark Rochford told the court that Neal, who was diagnosed in 2000, infected two men with HIV and attempted to infect 14 others.

Rochford said that Neal met the victims in parks and other areas where gays cruise for sex and on the internet.

He allegedly tried to get one victim to help him spread the disease and drugged another man - who is now HIV-positive - because he refused unprotected sex.

Oh wait it doesn't end there. You should here is defense. ARGGG!

Neal had pleaded not guilty. His lawyer said that Neal believed he was not contagious because he immediately began retroviral treatment after being diagnosed. His viral load levels were “undetectable” nine months later. Viral load levels indicate how actively the virus is reproducing. [SOURCE]

Luckily the idiot was found guilty on 15 charges, including eight counts of attempting to infect another person with HIV and two counts of rape. Lets hope he has been put away for good.

HIV CURE TRIAL CANCELLED - SAFETY CONCERNS

For my last blog.. got some bummer news. Seems like they are stopping trials on an HIV vaccine

due to safety concerns.. Bah!!

A research trial for the PAVE-100 AIDS vaccine planned in the U.S. has been cancelled over concerns that additional research is needed to prove the vaccine is safe before it is tested on a large number of human subjects.

A similar vaccine from Merck was pulled from research trials last year after it failed to prevent infections and was found to have possibly increased recipients’ chances of contracting HIV.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) planned to test the PAVE-100 vaccine in 2,400 male volunteers at a cost of around $63 million, according to HealthNews.com.
Originally, the PAVE (Partnership for AIDS Vaccine Evaluation) vaccine was intended to be tested in 8,500 volunteers last October.

However, the trial was suspended after the failure of a similar HIV vaccine from Merck.
The Merck HIV vaccine was pulled from research trials last year after failing to prevent infections in research participants and failing to lower the amount of HIV in the blood of infected volunteers. [SOURCE]

That sucks. I feel like this disease may be upon us for some time. Like Cancer, it just seems impossible for a cure. I dunno, deep down I feel like its a conspiracy with the U.S. government trying to save researcher jobs and funding for these diseases. I mean a lot of money goes into these researches for a cure and nothing?? Hmmm.. Gets me thinking every time.

TIME TO REPEAL US BAN ON HIV TRAVELLERS?

Here is something i didn't know. Did you know in the States that one who has HIV and wants to immigrate or have a short travel trip to the country is not allowed to? They are barred from the country due to current US immigration law. Crazy stuff..

Well it seem that a former candidate for President of the United States has said he hopes he will be able to remove a ban on people who are HIV positive travelling to the country. DUN DUN DUN...

Speaking to the HIV/AIDS Task Force of the Centre for Strategic & International Studies in Washington DC yesterday, Senator John Kerry said there is "no excuse for a law that stigmatises a particular disease."

HIV ON THE RISE... AGAIN!!

I just read this article at Queerity.com. I know we keep posting it all over the web, but something has to be done. People have to be more safer. How hard is it to put on rubber before "sexy-times". I dunno, it makes me angry because this adds to the stereotype. This actually confirms the stereotype that out of everyone, gays carry AIDs the most. So Sad.

"The latest data on HIV infection across 33 states finds new diagnoses jumping by 12 percent annually between 2001 and 2006 among young gay and bisexual men.
Researchers at [CDC] say the rise is “especially concerning” for young black men aged 13 to 24 who have sex with men. For this group, the annual rate of new HIV diagnoses rose by 15 percent annually, compared to a 9 percent and an 8 percent annual rise among their white and Hispanic peers, respectively...Overall, gay and bisexual men comprised 63 percent of all cases of new infection among U.S. males, and almost two-thirds of new cases among men who have sex with men occurred in the 25-to 44-year-old age group, the CDC said."
